LOVE & OTHER DRUGS Opening Night Gala

AFI is honored to host the world premiere of AFI Conservatory graduate Edward Zwick’s LOVE & OTHER DRUGS. Adapted from Jamie Reidy’s scathing memoir, “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman,” the film is at once a winning romantic comedy and a potent send-up of an out-of-control industry. Anne Hathaway plays Maggie, an alluring free spirit who won’t let anyone tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. Both actors deliver electric, spot-on performances as the sparring lovers whose ethical differences become even more exacerbated once Jake enters the booming Viagra trade. With satiric verve, Zwick reveals his unerring grasp of human nature at both its basest and most giving The mismatched couple’s relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love.
