CHICO & RITA is on epic, animated love story set against the splendor of Cuban culture, history and music. Beginning in 1948, the spellbinding film tells a tale of passion and heartache worthy of a bolero. Chico is a promising young pianist who spends his evenings taking American girls to Havana’s latest hotspots. He discovers Rita’s exquisite voice at a nightclub and the two quickly become enamored. When on American producer approaches Rita with on offer to travel to New York, a misunderstanding with Chico leads Rita to accept the offer, and the film takes off on Chico’s love-blind pursuit from New York to Paris to Hollywood and Los Vegas With a soundtrack by legendary Cuban pianist and bandleader Bebo Valdes, the film is rife with jazz history a tribute to Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal’s long-standing love affair with the music, culture and people of Cuba.
