THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER Young Americans

David Robert Milchell’s fealure film debut reminds us of a time when sleepovers, bike rides and Ouija board hijinks were the now-or-never crucial moments of our existence. Set against a backdrop of the mile roads, neighborhood blocks, lakes and abandoned factories that make up metro Detroit, this captivatingly sun-kissed story follows four young people as they search for love and adventure on the last night of summer Maggie, Rob, Claudia and Scott cross paths as they rove the suburban wonderland chasing first kisses, elusive crushes, popularity and parties. They are looking for the iconic teenage experience, but instead they discover the quiet moments that will one day become the part of their youth they cherish the most. Mitchell weaves together a beautifully crafted film with a talented ensemble cast of young actors who – poised between brashness and awkward fragility – ably capture the essence of what it is like to be young.
