OH BOY Breakthrough

In this German comedy shot in black & white, Niko, a young slacker and college dropout, is dumped by his girlfriend. His father cuts him off financially and a psychiatrist confirms that he’s emotionally unbalanced. To cope with his situation, Niko wanders the streets of Berlin, encountering various odd characters, including a girl from grade school who he finds attractive. Niko is an interesting and entertaining character whose behavior occasionally conspires against him in comedic ways. Even though they appear only briefly, the supporting characters are also memorable. OH BOY is the debut feature of German director Jan Ole Gerster.

Jan Ole Gerster studied directing and screenwriting at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. He directed the documentary THE MAKING OF GOOD BYE, LENIN and wrote the screenplay for SICK HOUSE, part of the short film series GERMANY ‘09-13 SHORT FILMS ON THE STATE OF THE NATION. OH BOY, a tragi-comedy, is his feature film debut.
