PARADISE: LOVE World Cinema

This first installment of Seidl’s PARADISE trilogy tells the story of Teresa, an aging European woman, as she embarks on a sex tourism trip. Traveling to Kenya, she finds herself on a beach with muscular young men lining up to have sex for money. Reticent to fully embrace her authority over these boys and finding it difficult to identify her own true need of love over sex, Teresa is uncomfortably trapped just this side of paradise. Never afraid to court controversy, Seidl’s latest film does just that by exploring the perspective of a woman in a position of power, albeit a highly colonial power. This modern love story takes the viewer on an arduous journey through the highly- charged playing field of sexual and cultural oppression.

Ulrich Seidl is the director of the award-winning documentaries GOOD NEWS, ANIMAL LOVE and MODELS. Werner Herzog named Seidl one of his 10 favorite filmmakers. His first fiction feature DOG DAYS won the Grand Jury Special Prize at the 2001 Venice Film Festival. Seidl’s latest project is the Paradise Trilogy: PARADISE: LOVE, PARADISE: FAITH and PARADISE: HOPE.
