POST TENEBRAS LUX World Cinema

Winner of the Best Director prize of the 65th Cannes Film Festival, POST TENEBRAS LUX further establishes Carlos Reygadas as a distinctive voice in contemporary Mexican cinema. The film details the life of Juan and Natalia, a wealthy couple living in a stunning house in the country with their two little children (played by Reygadas’ own children) and their pack of dogs. The family hires and trusts the local townsmen with help around the house, including childcare, construction and security. When an employee they considered a friend backstabs Juan, chaos enters the household. Continuing the exploration of themes from his previous films, Reygadas employs minimal dialogue, instead focusing on lush sound and haunting landscapes. One of the most challenging films of the year, POST TENEBRAS LUX juxtaposes animalistic brutality and pure innocence in order to examine darkness and pursue light.

Carlos Reygadas studied law in Mexico and specialized in armed conflict law in London before becoming a filmmaker.  His first feature film JAPÓN received a special mention for the Camera d’Or at Cannes in 2002. His third feature film SILENT LIGHT was an Official Selection at AFI FEST 2007.  POST TENEBRAS LUX is his fourth and latest feature film.
