ELECTRICK CHILDREN Young Americans

Rebecca Thomas’ feature film debut, ELECTRICK CHILDREN, follows Rachel, a 15-year-old girl from a strict Mormon family, who finds herself miraculously pregnant after listening to a rock music cassette. With her family pressuring her to marry a suitor they have chosen, Rachel runs away to Las Vegas to search for the man who sang the song on her tape, thinking he might have the answers to her mysterious pregnancy. Thomas crafts an indelible coming-of-age tale that explores questions of faith, teenage rebellion and self-discovery. This is a breakout role for actress Julia Garner, who imbues Rachel with just the right amount of wide-eyed innocence and teen angst. She is supported by notable performances from Rory Culkin and Liam Aiken. Thomas’ debut marks a strong female voice in the world of American independent cinema.

Rebecca Thomas was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, and served on a Mormon mission to Japan. She wrote the screenplay for the short NOBODY KNOWS YOU, NOBODY GIVES A DAMN, which was an Official Selection at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009. ELECTRICK CHILDREN, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, is Thomas’ debut feature film as a writer/director.
