THE MIDNIGHT SWIM Breakthrough

Three half-sisters travel to their mother’s home to settle her affairs after she goes missing in mysterious Spirit Lake. The youngest, June, a documentary filmmaker, captures their homecoming with her camera. On their first night in the house, the women attempt to conjure a local spirit – but as things start to go bump in the night, their relationships unravel and they find themselves drawn deeper into the true mystery of the lake. The vastly different sisters are played perfectly by Lindsay Burdge, Jennifer Lafleur and Aleksa Palladino, who bring an impressive level of authenticity to their roles. In her debut feature, director-screenwriter Sarah Adina Smith adeptly blurs the line between ghost story and family drama. What results is a film that gets under your skin, staying with you long after you leave the theater.

Before THE MIDNIGHT SWIM, Sarah Adina Smith wrote and directed award-winning short THE SIRENS, and co-wrote and produced GOODBYE WORLD, released in April 2014. Her latest script, THE COLONY, is a Nicholl Fellowship semi-finalist and is scheduled to shoot in 2015.
