IT FOLLOWS Midnight

Jay, a college student living in the Detroit suburbs, spends her time hanging out with her sister and friends Paul and Yara. After having sex with her new beau, Jay is plagued by nightmarish visions and the sneaking suspicion that someone – or something – is following her.  As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind. Director-screenwriter David Robert Mitchell returns to AFI FEST with his second feature, which takes the tone of his first, THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER, and raises the stakes by throwing his teen characters into a terrifying, supernatural situation. Star Maika Monroe brings vulnerability and strength to the character of Jay, in a film that expertly blends the genres of horror and teen coming-of-age films.

David Robert Mitchell, a Detroit native, premiered his debut feature, THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER (AFI FEST 2010), at the SXSW Film Festival; it went on to premiere internationally at the Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week. IT FOLLOWS was nominated for the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
