OVER YOUR DEAD BODY (KUIME) World Cinema

In a regional film industry known for producing prolific directors, Japanese horror master Takashi Miike has a reputation as the hardest-working man in show business. With OVER YOUR DEAD BODY, Miike pulls the curtain back on a theater production that takes a bloody, supernatural turn. Actors rehearsing the classic play “Yotsuya Kaidan” find their violent, double-faced stage roles seeping into real life. A nasty love triangle emerges between leading lady Miyuke, her lover and a second actress who, eerily, also steals the affections of Miyuke’s on-stage love interest. Look out for the brilliantly disturbing climax in Miyuke’s bedroom, which, lit by moonlight reflecting off transparent tarps, is yet another trademark gory set-piece from the dazzlingly creative mind behind AUDITION and 13 ASSASSINS (AFI FEST 2010).

Takashi Miike was born in Osaka, Japan. His work, often marked by explicit sex and violence, has figured prominently in the international cinema scene and festival circuit for more than a decade. Among his best-known works are 13 ASSASSINS (AFI FEST 2010), AUDITION and ICHI THE KILLER.
