TU DORS NICOLE World Cinema

At 22, Nicole is a typical post-college aimless spirit. Living with her parents, she passes the summer by watching her brother’s band practice in the family home. She occasionally lusts after young men, and is lusted after by a little blond-haired boy she used to babysit, Martin (played by a child actor but hilariously voiced by someone much older). Nicole’s apathy, compounded by the oppressive summer heat, keeps her from making many – or any – important decisions. She plans a trip to Iceland with her best friend, but even that proves too difficult. Québécois filmmaker Stéphane Lafleur infuses his third narrative feature with a delightfully light touch, with perfect visual details such as Nicole’s neglected list of chores and a sticky bike lock which frustrates her attempts to go anywhere. As Nicole’s summer trips along, the film slides into its sublime and unexpected conclusion.

Stéphane Lafleur has made more than 30 short films. His film, CONTINENTAL, A FILM WITHOUT GUNS, world premiered at the Venice Film Festival. His second feature, FAMILIAR GROUND, was awarded the Ecumenical Jury Award at the Berlin Film Festival. TU DORS NICOLE is his third feature film.
