FLYING DOWN TO RIO Cinema's Legacy

This 1933 RKO musical, best known as the first on-screen pairing of fleet-footed screen icons Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, stars the gorgeous Dolores del Río as Belinha, an irresistible woman who seduces the leader of a band touring Miami. So enticed is the man that he follows Belinha, as the title suggests, all the way down to Brazil, but not without some major in-flight drama and spectacle! An emergency landing on a deserted island, scantily clad women (still reveling in pre-Code raciness) dancing on airplane wings and the unending charisma of some of the 1930s’ brightest stars — all this is in FLYING DOWN TO RIO. Enjoy this gorgeous 35mm print from the Warner Bros. archive. — Beth Hanna
