RULES DON’T APPLY Galas

It’s Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin Marla Mabrey (Lily Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Warren Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her driver Frank Forbes (Alden Ehrenreich), who is engaged to be married to his seventh grade sweetheart and is a deeply religious Methodist. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ number one rule: No employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes’ behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.

Since starring in his first film, SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS (1961), Warren Beatty has demonstrated a great longevity in movies. His films are often referred to as classics, including BONNIE AND CLYDE (1967), MCCABE & MRS. MILLER (1971), HEAVEN CAN WAIT (1978) and REDS (1981). Beatty has been Oscar®-nominated 15 times; only he and Orson Welles have been nominated by the Academy as an actor, director, writer and producer for the same film. In 2008, Beatty was the 36th recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award.
