GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER Cinema's Legacy

Set during the tumultuous climate of the late 1960s, GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER delves into the complexities of an interracial love affair between an African-American doctor and a young white socialite. Following a whirlwind romance in Hawaii, the pair return to California for an impromptu introduction between their respective parents, only to find the future bride’s slightly guileless approach to their relationship compromised by a stiff and sobering dose of reality. Directed by Stanley Kramer with great sensitivity and integrity, this groundbreaking masterpiece reveals the multilayered subtleties of societal ignorance in race relations. Winner of two Oscars®, the film is anchored by powerful performances by Sidney Poitier, Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and sparked a dialogue that remains relevant today. – Yvonne Williams
