LOS CAIFANES Cinema's Legacy

When wealthy couple Jaime and Paloma leave a swanky party and wander the streets of Mexico City, finding a seemingly abandoned car where they can sneak some kisses, little do they know they’ve stumbled upon a set of wheels owned by Captain Gato and his gang, Los Caifanes. This begins a tour around the city, as Jaime and Paloma are shown the lower-class nightlife of the Mexican capital, from cabarets to bars and funeral homes, all set to the social turmoil and psychedelic force of 1960s Mexico City. Director/writer Juan Ibáñez, known stateside for cult Boris Karloff entries ISLE OF THE SNAKE PEOPLE (1971) and ALIEN TERROR (1971), both of which he collaborated on with director Jack Hill, here gives us an outrageous, ahead-of-its time Mexican cinema classic.
