PIG (KHOOK) World Cinema

Hasan is a past-his-prime filmmaker who obsessively worries about his fallen status in the Tehrani creative community. When it becomes clear that a serial killer is picking off relevant local filmmakers one by one, Hasan suddenly has a new insecurity on which to fixate: why hasn’t he been killed yet? In veteran filmmaker and AFI FEST alum Mani Haghighi’s wonderfully bizarre dark comedy PIG, the satire is heavy and hilarious, and gender stereotypes are taken for a ride. Male directors are suddenly prey, and the actresses they creepily select as their muses are strong and brutally independent.

Born in Tehran in 1969, Mani Haghighi’s films include ABADAN (2004), MEN AT WORK (2006) and CANAAN (2008). He has also acted in several films, including Asghar Farhadi’s ABOUT ELLY (2009), as well as his own film, MODEST RECEPTION (2012). A DRAGON ARRIVES! (AFI FEST 2016), his sixth feature, competed for the Golden Bear at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival. PIG is his seventh feature.
