Description

In sunny Vienna elderly Robert awakes to find his dog has died. He wants to bury him in the garden, but a stubborn tree root impedes his progress. He goes into town to hire some help and encounters young immigrant Adib. Hiring him for a low wage, he brings him back to his house. A classic conflict of cultures and a wide generational gap ensues illustrating modern society in microcosm. Will these two men so far emotionally amputated from each other ever find common ground to connect on? Will the most unlikely of friendships bloom from a dead tree stump or will cultural identity politics keep these men forever cut off from fraternization? Bios

Born in Austria, Karl Markovics started his career in Vienna’s Serapionstheater and spent 12 years as a freelance actor before landing the role of Stockinger in the TV Series KOMMISSAR REX in 1993. He later played the leading role in Stefan Ruzowitzky’s Academy Award®-winning THE COUNTERFEITERS in 2008. BREATHING, his directorial debut, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival at the Directors’ Fortnight in 2011, winning the Europa Cinema Label award. It was screened and awarded at festivals worldwide, including Sarajevo Film Festival (Best Film, Best Actor), and Sao Paolo International Film Festival (Best Film). SUPERWELT followed in 2014 and screened at festivals including Berlinale and Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
