TROOP ZERO Special Screenings

TROOP ZERO

Spunky, oddball nine-year-old Christmas Flint loves space. When she learns the prize for the 1977 Birdie Jamboree talent competition is having your voice recorded on the space-bound NASA’s Golden Record, Christmas decides to start her own troop. After recruiting other neighborhood misfits, she convinces the fearless Rayleen (Viola Davis) to help as troop mother. Much to the discouragement of the school principal (Allison Janney), the ragtag bunch enters the extra-perfect world of official Birdies as they try to earn their Birdie badges and place on the talent show floor.

Female duo Bert & Bertie take a script from BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD writer Lucy Alibar and craft a sweet, quirky family comedy of friendship and acceptance. –Sarah Harris

TROOP ZERO will also screen for Los Angeles students during AFI FEST thanks to the support of the Youth Cinema Project.

Bert & Bertie are a female writing-directing duo from London with their own unique style of storytelling and playful realism. Their combined backgrounds in photography and performance led them to make short films with a distinct voice. Blurring lines between reality and whimsy, theirs is a world of heartwarming invention, crackling with emotion and driven by affecting performances.
