PROCESSION

Talent attending in-person screening: Robert Greene (Director).

Director Robert Greene has a collaborative approach in making his films, often by encouraging his subjects to act out roles in the projects, allowing them a safe place to explore difficult issues (as in BISBEE ’17 and KATE PLAYS CHRISTINE). PROCESSION chronicles six Kansas City men at different stages of processing childhood sexual abuse they’ve endured from members of the Catholic clergy. With the help of a registered drama therapist, the men work to each create a short film as a tool for them to confront their pasts with this very complicated and difficult role-play. Their artistic journeys amalgamate into a powerful brotherhood, creating something truly beautiful out of such horrible trauma while eliciting a few tears of sadness, joy and even some laughter. –Eric Moore

Robert Greene’s film BISBEE ’17 premiered at Sundance, and A.O. Scott of The New York Times named it Best Film of 2018. He directed the Sundance award-winning KATE PLAYS CHRISTINE (2016) and the Gotham Awards-nominated ACTRESS (2014). Greene is also an editor, writer and professor at the Murray Center for Documentary Journalism.
