PIAFFE Discovery

PIAFFE

In a playful exploration of gender, eroticism and control, the introverted Eva (Simone Bucio) is tasked with completing her sibling Zara’s work as a foley artist after Zara is admitted into a psychiatric hospital. Struggling through the sessions for a commercial for a mood-stabilizing drug curiously featuring dressage imagery, Eva finds herself growing a horsetail out of her own body. Gaining confidence from this delightful new appendage, she seduces a botanist in a game of submission and kink play. Visual artist-turned-filmmaker Ann Oren meticulously crafts an audiovisual feast of textures and vibrancy, celebrating a strange sensuality in synthesizing species, gender and power dynamics. As the distinction between human, animal and plant fades away, we also let ourselves dissolve into this wonderfully peculiar world of tactile exploration. –Anna Li

Born in Tel Aviv, Ann Oren is a visual artist and filmmaker. After moving to Berlin in 2015, her artistic focus started to shift from video art and installations to cinema. She directed PASSAGE in 2020, a 16mm short film that serves as a prequel to PIAFFE.
