TRENQUE LAUQUEN will be screening in two parts with a 20-minute intermission.

The newest output of the El Pampero Collective (which has produced some of Argentinian cinema’s most exciting recent discoveries, including the colossal LA FLOR), TRENQUE LAUQUEN takes us on a mystifying journey centered on an inquisitive academic and radio show presenter, Laura (Laura Paredes). When she disappears soon after discovering a collection of secret love letters that had been hidden in a local library, two men – her boyfriend and his driver – set out to look for her. As we piece together clues about Laura’s life, we are plunged into a labyrinth of mysteries and disappearances, seemingly tethered by the last unclassified flora species of the region in her governmental work. As stories nest into other stories, director Laura Citarella intricately crafts a series of interlocking mysteries, which fold and unravel into a shapeshifting saga spanning past legends and future dreams, in this meditation on the pursuit of curiosity and the act of vanishing. –Anna Li
