32 SOUNDS Documentary

32 SOUNDS

Screening to be followed by a conversation with sound designer Mark Mangini.

Certain to forever alter the way that you listen, this profound sensory experience from Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Sam Green (THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND) features an immersive, sonic tour through the history of sound science and experimental music, with original music by JD Samson, lead singer of MEN and Le Tigre. In weaving together 32 specific sound explorations, an interactive listening presentation challenges our understanding of the phenomenon of sound, demonstrating the ways in which sound shapes our perception, our memories and our conception of the surrounding world. Introducing charming and delightfully curious subjects along the way, opening your ears and heart to listen with experimental composer Annea Lockwood and exiled revolutionary Nehanda Abiodun, to John Cage and recordings archived deep in the annals of the British Library Sound Archive. In this unique binaural presentation, headphones are provided to each attendee, proposing a different relationship to hearing and calling attention to the special qualities of sound. –Malin Kan
