Kristy Guevara-Flanagan (ÁGUILAS/EAGLES, AFI FEST 2021) tackles the exploitation of women in the entertainment industry by dissecting sex scenes in well-known films. From manipulation and coercion to downright harassment, this deep dive into the treatment of women, both behind and in front of the camera, unveils the real-world impact that onscreen portrayals have after the credits roll. Pathways for improvement are explored, such as the recent introduction of intimacy coordinators and the crucial role they play in creating comfortable boundaries between cast and crew. Film scholars, historians and major names in acting and filmmaking, including Jane Fonda, Joey Soloway, Rose McGowan and Karyn Kusama, share their experiences and offer nuanced perspectives.
