Intertwining folklore, magical realism and a quiet dread, this ominous feature debut from director Nikyatu Jusu is a visceral psychological thriller imbued with nightmares. To support herself in New York City and the expected arrival of her son from abroad, Senegalese immigrant Aisha (Anna Diop) works as a nanny for an upper-class, white mother. Tensions and jealousy between the two boil over as Aisha grows closer to the young girl she cares for despite her wages being neglected. Cursed by horrific visions that test her sanity and threaten violence, Aisha must untangle the web of her increasing rage and confront the sinister spirit that haunts her.
