MEMORY Special Screenings

MEMORY

Screening to be followed by a conversation with director Michel Franco and actor Peter Sarsgaard.

Thirteen years sober, Sylvia (Academy Award® winner Jessica Chastain) has worked hard to create a stable life for herself and her teenage daughter. She regularly attends her AA meetings and is dedicated to her job at an adult daycare facility. But her carefully constructed routine gets disrupted when she has an off-putting encounter with a dementia patient named Saul (Peter Sarsgaard). Haunted by the past, this chance encounter reverberates through both of their lives, opening new possibilities for their future. The gentle chemistry between Chastain and Sarsgaard, who won Best Actor at this year’s Venice Film Festival, anchors this heart-wrenching melodrama, while supporting performances from Merritt Wever, Josh Charles, Elsie Fisher and Jessica Harper provide grounded support. Unvarnished and sensitively told, Mexican provocateur and AFI FEST alum Michel Franco (NEW ORDER, SUNDOWN) continues to surprise with his bold, actor-focused approach. –Josh Gardner
