Another Hope tells the story of a young man who begins working at a power plant near his village, where he learns of many strange disappearances of the factory’s workers. Eventually he discovers that the vanishing workers are being subjected to pain which is then transformed into electrical power for the village. It is not very often that one encounters such an assured feature debut from a woman in the context of Latin American cinema. Mercedes Frutos deserves to be praised, not only for a well-crafted story and a very interesting eye for color, but also for her skilled direction. -Rosa Bosch, London Film Festival
