Documentary filmmaker Carlos Azpurua directed this ambitious suspense thriller which current political events in Venezuela make particularly relevant. As the police sweep a poor neighborhood in an attempt to lower crime, things get out of hand and an innocent man is murdered while his mother watches helplessly. When the official version describes him as a desperate criminal, the man’s mother carries on her own intensive investigation The pacing of Shoot to Kill is brisk, and Waldemar D’Lima’s musical score is quite effective in maintaining tension. -Paul Lenti, Variety
