Based on events that occurred in France in 1984, Deficiency is a horrific and all-too-realistic tale of murder and betrayal. It tells the story of Roland Resse, a loner and wanderer, who takes a room with a kindly older Jewish woman, Mrs. Martin. By day his fascist coworker fills him with anti-Semitic ideas and propaganda, while by night the warm-hearted Mrs. Martin feeds and cares for him. Roland’s struggle to reconcile the different sides of his life finally explodes in heart-wrenching violence. Newcomer Christophe Garcia gives a performance of terrifying intensity in the role of Roland.
