BORIS GODUNOV Opera on Film

A compelling drama based on Pushkin’s play about the guilt-ridden 16th-century Czar Boris Godunov, this version of Russia’s most famous opera features the great Alexander Pirogov as Boris and the Bolshoi Orchestra and Chorus. Director Vera Stroyeva staged passages of Mussorgsky’s classic opera in the Kremlin and throughout Moscow to powerful effect. Stroyeva makes excellent use of significant crosscutting, and Boris Godunov is no mere recreation of a staged performance, but a genuinely cinematic version.
