Filmed in Germany, America and Korea, Radio Star is a nostalgic trip to the past. For 50 years, the
Armed Forces Network (AFN) was a radio station on special duty at the front, giving the troops
a “radiophonic feeling of home” and perhaps more. Extraordinary and in part unpublished
archive materials are to be seen and heard, evoking memories of the first chewing gum, the
first Coke, Glenn Miller, with Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe (singing
“Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” for the fans in Korea in 1953) doing their part “for the flag,
for the home, for the family … ”
