DESERT SEAS (DESIERTOS MARES) A Tribute to Contemporary Mexican Cinema

A film director suffers from a deep existential crisis when his wife leaves him for another man. This
crisis, which leads him to near suicide, takes him through an obsessive reminiscence of a childhood
trip from the desert to the sea, which was the last time he saw his father alive. Meanwhile,
he writes the dreamlike story of a visionary and thoughtful Spanish conquistador, who looks just
like his father and goes from heroism to cruelty to madness. The two stories brilliantly juxtapose
with his own present day crisis, and poignantly depict the search for the love and warmth he so
desperately needs.
