THE NEON BIBLE British Film Showcase European Union Films From Cannes

A moving story of a young boy growing up in a small 1940s Bible Belt town in America’s Deep
South. The film boasts a strong cast, including the extraordinary Gena Rowlands as Aunt Mae,
who brings a dash of glamour and excitement to the small town; cult comedian Denis Leary as
the boy’s father; Oscar nominee Diana Scarwid as the boy’s mother; and a stunning performance
from newcomer Jacob Tierney as the boy. Though Davies’ setting has changed, the themes-the loss
of innocence, the influence of the family on a small boy, and the nature of memory-remain. And,
retaining much of the creative team from his earlier films, Davies has once again produced a film
which is visually stunning, with each frame lovingly lit.-Nick Thomas, Moving Pictures International
