THE FLYING DUTCHMAN (DE VLIEGENDE HOLLANDER) European Union Films From Cannes

An epic fairy tale for adults set in the 16th Century from award winning director Jos Stelling
( The Pointsman), this is a dreamlike visual retelling of the poetic fable of the sailor doomed to
roam the seven seas on an eerie, flying ship. The illegitimate son of the legendary Dutchman
learns the story of his father through a manipulative Italian minstrel who tells him his father is
alive, sailing the seas of the world. Believing this to be true, the boy goes on a quest for the
Dutchman, the mythical boat and the magic sea. Instead, he finds a murderous, greedy dwarf,
a useless wreck of a ship and an ugly swamp.
