LA STRADA Fellini Seen by Charlotte Chandler

AFI Fest is pleased to present Charlotte Chandler, who will discuss
her new Random House book, “I Fellini”, about the legendary Italian director
Federico Fellini. “I have orr1y one life, and that I have told to you. This is my
last testament, I have no more to say,” Fellini told his friend of fourteen years,
Charlotte Chandler. This final, high-spirited testament of the lusty man whose
dreams, memories and nightmares made 8-1/2, La Dolce Vita and many more
great films is a unique and candid memoir. Told almost entirely in the first
person, “I Fellini” celebrates the mind of a true master who directed films that
changed forever the shape and possibilities of the motion picture and caused
a new world to enter the English language: “Felliniesque.”
With a screening of La Strada, the film Fellini considered his most representative
and autobiographical film. Academy Award Winner for Best Foreign
Film, La Strada is the melancholy story of a brutish strongman who travels
the countryside with his assistant, a simple waif who questions nothing until
they meet up with the “Madman,” a gentle acrobat who alters their fate. With a
haunting score by Nino Rota.
