FRESH BAIT (L’ APPAT) International Cinema

Bertrand Tavernier (L627, Round Midnight) has based this horrific crime drama on the true case
of two seemingly ordinary young men and a girl who committed cold-blooded murder to steal
enough money to open a chain of boutiques in America. In the girl’s statement to the police, she
calmly explains that all she did was set up the victims to open their doors, and during the murders
sat next door and watched a video while the screaming victims were tortured and killed behind a
closed door. Tavernier has offered a contemplation of possibilities; what results is a dissection of
society and its effect on personal conscience, at once fascinating and repelling to watch.
