BETWEEN PANCHO VILLA AND A NAKED WOMAN (ENTRE PANCHO VILLA Y UNA MUJER DESNUDA) A Tribute to Contemporary Mexican Cinema

This story describes the dilemma of Gina,
an enterprising, fortyish, divorced woman
who wants more out of her casual relationship
with Adrian, a liberal intellectual
who’s in it only for some good sex and
shies away from any form of commitment.
Adrian, who is writing a book on Pancho
Villa’s life, uses the famed historical figure
as a role model in dealing with the opposite
sex (“Attacking or retreating, that’s the
mocha’s destiny” is his motto). Fed up with
Adrian’s sexist attitude, Gina takes a
younger lover, Ismael, who embodies the
qualities of the New Age male: sensitive,
caring, willing to sit down and talk about
innermost feelings. His pride hurt, Adrian
tries to win back Gina with the help of
Villa himself, who appears a la Bogart in
Play it Again, Sam as a ghostly alter-ego,
ready to give advice on the macho creed.
