ADAM AND EVE (ADÃO E EVA) A Tribute to Contemporary Portuguese Cinema

Up-and-coming newscaster Maria de
Medeiros decides the clock is ticking and
picks her latest interviewee, unsuspecting
Karro Elejalde, as the daddy-neglecting
to tip off lover Ana Bustorff. But the predictable
fireworks are just the beginning,
as Elejalde refuses to take part in an
anonymous one-night stand; Bustorff’s
bemused ex-husband Joaquim de Almeida
starts suffering from moral support overload;
and Medeiros’ poisonous TV rival
Christina Carvalhal starts her photographer
boyfriend on the incriminating picture
hunt. Joaquim Leitao’s satirical farce broke
box-office records in Portugal and swept
their Oscar equivalent, but “family values”
win out in the end-and what a family! –
