A SATURDAY ON EARTH (UN SAMEDI SUR LA TERRE) European Union Film Showcase

This murder mystery, with its puzzle-like
construction, is comprised of slowly unfolding
personal histories and the taped testimonies
of “witnesses” involved in the
case. The story is set in Normandy, where
the meandering fates of a brother and sister
will finally and inexorably meet. Both in
their late twenties, these two natives of the
coastal region have not seen each other
since childhood, when they were both
adopted by separate families following the
death of their father. Martin now works in
a munitions factory in a small town, while
Claire has found work as a free-lance journalist
in Paris. Tragedy brings about their
chance reunion, when Martin runs over a
man who has thrown himself in front of his
car on a small country road …
