DYING TO GO HOME (MARTINHO POR CHEGAR A CASA) European Union Film Showcase

Manuel, a Portuguese immigrant living in
Amsterdam, wakes up in a cemetery and
discovers he’s a ghost. There’s another
ghost there: a Chinese man who tells him
he will only find peace if he can get his
bones back to his native land. This wouldn’t
be a problem if Manuel weren’t invisible,
inaudible and immaterial! But there is
one way Manuel can get the living to hear
what he wants them to do: through their
dreams. He has a great time communicating
with all kinds of people before getting
through to his sister. But, of course, she forgets
everything in the morning. When the
message finally does get through, however,
Manuel’s not so sure he really wants to
leave his new way of life-or death-after
all. .. -Production notes
