I’M SO-SO European Union Film Showcase

Shot in May of 1995, I’m So-So uses a
combination of interviews and brief film
clips to explore the life and art of the
renowned Polish director who had just
announced his decision to retire from making
films. Among the specialists who analyze
and help make up this portrait of
Kieslowski are a priest, a policeman, a
physician, a graphologist, a psychotherapist
and clairvoyant. Kieslowski himself
reminisces on his young days: how he
was bullied by his father, was not fond of
school, and pursued film direction only as
a way to enter into his first love, stage
directing. In time, he came to understand
that his business was “not knowing” rather
than knowing. Filmed just ten months
before his death, this is a rare glimpse into
the mind of the late Krzysztof Kieslowski.
