To celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary,
Leonor and Rogerio hold a garden
party at their beautiful palace in the
Azores. Amongst their guests are Irene, a
famous Greek actress, and Michel, her
lover. Michel feels it his duty to court
Leonor, who seems to accept his attentions.
Though Rogerio and Irene notice the
chemistry, they betray only wry amusement.
Five years later, Irene and Michel
return to the Azores and the game begins
again-but this time with an unexpected
twist. In his ninth decade, Oliveira continues
to play with illusion vs. reality; is it
chance that both actors and characters
