IN FULL GALLOP (CWAL) Poland

In Full Gallop is an autobiographical
adaptation of Polish filmmaker Krzysztof
Zanussi’s boyhood in the l 950’s. As a
result of constant surveillance by the
Secret Police and the subsequent threat to
young Hubert’s education, his mother
ships Hubert off to Warsaw to live with his
eccentric Aunt Idalia, who has a penchant
for horses. She teaches Hubert how to
“bend the truth,” yet confusion arises
when Hubert realizes Aunt Idalia has
been keeping the truth from him. She disguises
herself as a Bolshevik conspirator,
yet associates with party officials.
Meanwhile in school, he is disliked by an
envious classmate, the son of a communist
journalist who denounces Hubert as the
enemy of the Polish People’s Republic.
While searching for truth and dignity,
Hubert is able to finally uncover mysterious
Aunt Idalia’s secrets.
