THE LOVE LESSON United States

Seventeen years ago, two women made
an agreement. Grace, a civil servant,
would raise the son of Camille, a gallery
owner-with the provisions that the three
would live in close proximity and that the
adoption be kept from the child forever. As
the son, Christopher, grows older, however,
some vague but true connection
between himself and the woman living
across the way is not lost upon him.
Camille is an active member of the New
York art world, and poets and writers gather
regularly at her apartment. The discussions
and the voices of the poets echo
across the common courtyard to Chris,
and thus a relationship slowly takes form.
When Christopher, now a heterosexual
teenager, becomes HIV positive, the triangle
changes dramatically as Camille steps
into a role in her son’s life that she would
never have imagined.
