MACADAM TRIBU (MACADAM TRIBE) Zaire

The Tarmac Tribe are confused. With
Africa in the throes of economic modernization,
its people find themselves severed
from their tribal roots. The story of their
search for work, love and an identity,
Macadam Tribe is a vision of Africa that is
a fragmented, postmodern world away
from your standard shots of wildebeest
and savannahs. Set in a crowded, bustling
neighborhood in an unspecified city,
Laplaine’s feature debut focuses on the
lives of two brothers, Mike and
Kapa … [They) hit their local bars and boxing
clubs, spending their afternoons gambling
with an eclectic bunch of oddballs,
including the intellectual outsider Pop,
Giusseppe the Italian and the self-styled
‘Lonesome Gambler,’ Macho. All goes as
usual until Kapa’s good friend and boxing
mentor, Duka, re-enters the ring to fight a
champion who is more than his match …
