THE CHILDREN OF HEAVEN Official Competition

Ali and Zohre, two children of a poor neighborhood,
are faced with a big problem. Ali has lost the shoes of his
little sister while bringing them home from the
shoemaker. They can’t tell anyone. Zohre has no other
shoes to wear to school and their parents don’t have the
money to buy a new pair. So Ali and Zohre come up with
a solution: Zohre will wear Ali’s shoes to attend girls’
school in the morning and will rush home in time for Ali
to wear them to boys’ school in the afternoon. Their
‘solution’ requires fine timing and no obstacles.
Its story told in a neorealistic style reminiscent of
Jafar Panahi’s THE WHITE BALLOON, this film
provides a glimpse into the daily life of lower-class urban
society in contemporary Iran. -Montreal World Film
Festival (Winner, Grand Prix)
