BROTHER (BRAT) World Cinema

Danila Bagrov (brilliantly
portrayed by Sergei Bodrov of
PRISONER OF THE MOUNTAINS)
returns home after two years in the
army. Dissatisfied with life in the
provincial small town, he leaves for
St. Petersburg where his elder brother
has been very successful in business
for the last few years. But he soon
learns the truth about his brother, who
is a contract killer. One of the first
films to emerge from Russia about the
Mafia situation, this dark, fast-paced
drama charts territory more common
to the American anti-hero films of the
70s, and does it with exceptional
panache.
