KNOCKIN’ ON HEAVEN’S DOOR World Cinema

Martin has a brain tumor and
Rudi is suffering from bone cancer.
Their diagnoses: nearly dead. But
Rudi has never seen the ocean, so the
two steal a baby blue Mercedes and
escape from the hospital. With two
goofy gangsters, the cops and death on
their tail, the two manage to live more
intensely, more wildly, more
passionately than ever before. In his
inspired directing debut, former cab
driver Jahn combines black humor,
suspense and a minimum of pathos in
an energetic, assured buddy film
which even manages to sneak in
Rutger Hauer in a cameo role.
