DOWN IN THE DELTA Premiere

Maya Angelou’s feature-length directing debut opens in Chicago
where Loretta, played by three-time Emmy Award winner Alfre
Woodard, lives with her mother and two children. Unskilled and
unable to make a living, Loretta falls into an alcohol-fueled
tailspin. Loretta’s mother, determined to pull her daughter and
grandchildren out of harm’s way, executes a risky plan. She
pawns the family’s most valuable heirloom and uses the money
to send her family to their ancestral home in Mississippi. It is
here, among family, that Loretta finds redemption and earns her
place in her family’s esteem. Backed with an impressive cast of
veteran actors, Angelou brings her formidable talents,
unparalleled vision and unflagging integrity to this multigenerational
family saga.-MILL VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL
