I WOKE UP EARLY THE DAY I DIED Premiere

A cross-dressing thief escapes from a sanitarium, wearing his
nurse’s uniform. The reason for his residence in Casa de la Loco?
Random noises trigger a cerebral frenzy, driving him to kill. He
embarks on a homicidal larceny bender. ..
Clearly a sign from the old Gods of Hollywood that Tinseltown’s
first century is coming to a close, notorious Z-film director
Edward D. Wood Jr. has made a comeback from beyond the
grave. After his box office failures; PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE
and GLEN OR GLENDA, poor Ed – a true pioneer of the indie
spirit – found it impossible to find backing for his script I WOKE
UP EARLY THE DAY I DIED, despite already having convinced Aldo
Ray to play the crazed thief, and John Carradine the sinister
undertaker. I WOKE UP EARLY THE DAY I DIED is rooted in his
thematic obsessions with death, graveyards, burlesque and the
grotesque. But Wood’s script contains no dialogue, simply garish
sounds, screams, laughter and music, music, music.-TORONTO
