THE LEOPARD (IL GATTOPARDO) Classic Film Retrospective

A favorite of both Scorsese and Coppola, as well as a gorgeous evocation at a past era, this Italian masterpiece tells the saga of a Sicilian landowner as he loses power during the unification of Italy in the 1800s.

The original Film was saddled with a poor English dub and over- processed color. Fox Studios then removed 44 minutes of footage, provoking an outraged Luchino Visconti to disown his Film. Now all is restored in this brand new print on loan From Cinecitta Studio. A landmark Italian film with glorious set design, THE LEOPARD is considered one of the finest CinemaScope films ever made. The visual artistry is matched by a magnificent soundtrack from legendary Italian composer Nino Rota. Grand Prix Winner, Cannes I963.

“THE LEOPARD is a stunning visualization at a mood of melancholy and nostalgia at the passing at an era. — B. Crowther, New York” Times
